UROP Student Engagement

UROP Research Projects & Student Leadership

Research by our UROP students centers lived experience while producing practical tools, recommendations, and future pathways. On average, 80% of students on our research teams are diagnosed with and/or identify as neurodivergent.

43 UROP researchers across three project cycles

2023–20244 students

Focus: Global higher education institutions; inclusive environments, systems, policies, support, and culture.

Outcome: Built foundational relationships with the Stanford and University of Melbourne Neurodiversity Projects, supporting ongoing launch work.

2024–202524 students

Focus: Policy recommendations, climate survey development, AI and accessibility, gaming and augmented realities, mental health, adaptive sports, and arts engagement.

Outcome: Five students presented research at national conferences (see presentations below).

2025–202615 students

Focus: Mental health, adaptive sports, employment toolkits, and gaming environments.

Outcome: Covenant Akinremi presented on equitable sports participation at the 6th Annual Stanford Neurodiversity Summit (2026). Students are building shareable toolkits and accessibility tools for students and workplaces. Many plan to continue volunteering after their projects conclude.

Neurodiversity Alliance

Students demonstrate strong civic engagement through the launch of the Neurodiversity Alliance, a student-led organization and support group empowering neurodivergent students through leadership opportunities, professional development, career training, and scholarship resources. NDP serves as Advisor to this national partnership.
